Dear Fate,
haven't you heard?
emptiness is an edge
a clear, sheer, invisible edge
and it cuts like a knife
like a razor
Someone wants to hold it to your throat

Dear Fate,
are you blind? I thought that
was supposed to be Justice's job
you lead us all, huh,
suuure
right over a cliff
I thought the only sadistic creatures
were humans

Dear Fate,
you know it's not polite
to leave letters unanswered
so what if it's hate mail?
get over it
isn't that your
advice
and
philosophy?

Dear Fate,
i'm not empty
but i'm full of emptiness
and it's hurts just as bad
as i told you it did
all that time before
Don't you care?

Dear Fate,
i'm sending you this postcard from Despair
i don't even have the energy
for hate mail
you're telling our story
and we're not supposed to know how it ends
but i promise
if you make it a happy ending
i won't tell anybody
beforehand.
It could be our little secret

Dear Fate,
i'm getting old, you know
although i was young when first
i began our correspondence
you never answered
but something in me still hoping
for that happy ending
just wonders how long it takes to
deliver letters to the end of eternity
or maybe
they just got lost along the way

Dear Fate,
i hear them whisper that this'll be my deathbed
it's not white linen, like in
my imagination and dim associations with
the word "deathbed"
the sheets have little teddy bears on them
my little niece thought they were cute
are they as horrified as i am
trapped in their two dimensional reality
screaming the silent scream?

Dear Fate,
i'm going to start a petition for
that happy ending
we're all going to sign it
and you're going to have to change your tune
or at least your writing style
if, that is,
i have strength enough left
to reach for the pen and paper.

Dear Fate...
